Cary Nelson presents the “case against academic boycotts of Israel” to an audience at the Institute for National Security Studies, Tel Aviv (12/22/2014).

From the absurd assertion that “the boycott prevents Israeli and U.S. scholars from working together” to the outrageous assumption that “endorsing the academic boycott will destroy the MLA” to the nefarious accusation that “the boycott is anti-Semitic,” this document deconstructs 10 of the most widespread myths about the politics of the boycott of Israeli academic institutions.

Given the impossibility of defending Israel’s decades-long assault on Palestinian rights and the undeniable collusion of Israeli universities in the military occupation, pro-Israeli propagandists seek desperately  instead to discredit the legitimacy of the boycott movement and ruin the credibility of professional associations, scholars and students that endorse the boycott of Israeli academic institutions.

Download, email or print MLABoycottMyths, which reveals not only the political weakness of the anti-boycott positions, but more importantly the ethical foundations for endorsing the academic boycott of Israel.
