Al-Haq Video: Israeli Attacks on Palestinian University

Al-Haq, a Palestinian non-profit organization that focuses on human rights, reported in late November 2015 on Israel’s escalation of actions against Palestinian universities. The report addresses Israel’s military Screen Shot 2016-01-04 at 12.08.11 PMoperations from October 15 to November 30, 2015, documenting attacks on Palestinians in general and assaults on university campuses in East Jerusalem and the West Bank in particular.  The report places emphasis on the dire conditions at Al-Quds University in Abu Dis and the Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie in Tulkarem.

To illustrate, the deteriorating conditions at the Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie in Tulkarem, al-Haq has produced a short informative documentary video. In the video, two Palestinian students discuss the history of the university and the difficulties it faces in the current situation. The scripted dialogue underscores the various features of Israel’s almost 50 years of occupation. The students ask why Israeli military forces remain present on the campus, and in their town, obstructing students, provoking Palestinian youth, and attacking them with live ammunition, rubber bullets and tear gas. They point out that the very presence of the Israeli military on campus is the source of the conflict.

The International Middle East Media Center reported on December 20, 2015 that Israeli occupation forces continued attacks against students in Tulkarem through the month: “Violence on the campus of Palestine Technical University has been near-daily in recent weeks.”
